About the talk
This webinar (held in Spanish) will examine the intersection between debt and migration.
It will first focus on debt-financed migration, which falls into two main financing
mechanisms: wage deductions and advance payments. The second segment of the seminar
will broaden the discussion on debt-financed migration by presenting an upcoming project
that investigates the pursuit of the “good life on credit” in the context of a consumer
credit boom in Vietnam. This concept encapsulates the growing impact of formal and
informal debt as a factor driving migration from Vietnam to Europe and other regions.
The pursuit of the good life on credit is characterized by a landscape of struggles
and conflicting values, deeply influenced by the transformation of credit markets
as well as debt practices and relationships.
